Bakelite Material Overview

Mar 14,2025 61

What is bakelite made of? ----- Bakelite, also known as "ebonite," has the chemical name phenolic resin. It possesses high mechanical strength, excellent insulation properties, heat resistance, and corrosion resistance, making it widely used in various electrical manufacturing materials such as switches, motor casings, and kitchen utensil handles.

Bakelite Material Overview

The characteristics of bakelite injection-molded products include insulation, high-temperature resistance, non-absorbency, and high strength, which is why they are commonly used in electrical appliances. Due to its wood-like insulating properties and high mold-ability, it is called bakelite. Bakelite is made by mixing powdered phenolic resin with substances like wood flour, asbestos, or clay, and then thermally setting it in a mold at high temperatures. Phenolic resin is a type of synthetic resin created by humans.
